This is your base where you will be trained to a standard which is required to pass out of Shawbury. You will be working alongside QHI's at all times till you are ready to go solo.
Once cleared to solo you will be working to a range of 30 NM around Shawbury, height limited to no more than 3,000 Ft.
Your aircraft is the Squirrel HT1 Eurocopter AS3 50BB with a Arriel 1D1 Gas Turbine power plant. A very agile and reliable aircraft which can be adapted to Winch Cargo, Hook, Flotation Gear.
The training will consist of basic flight, ATC, circuits, navigation, emergency procedures, one on one training. Optional = by useing FSX we can now offer shared cockpit. You can watch, sitting next to the QHI, as he/she operates the Squirrel. Then you will be handed the controls at which point you take full control over the aircraft.
One area that is in use by the Squadron is relief airfield Sleep and Ternhill which we will be doing night time exercises, using Night Vision.
If your experienced or never flown before it doesn't matter. The main thing is to have fun ! With your commitment and from RAFvirtual, your career as a helicopter pilot will process to the Chinook, Merlin and Seaking.
