Welcome to 24 Sqn at RAFv Lyneham & 99 Sqn at RAFv Brize Norton

The Aircraft at Lyneham 24 Sqn is the C130 and at Brize Norton the 99 Sqn the C17.

We fly the logistics to any where they are needed within RAFv. The role of a 24Sqn pilot is very demanding, as the flights can be a short flight to Europe or a longer one down to the Falklands. We aim to closely follow the real world as much as possible, as in we try to fly with the correct cargo weight to fuel ratio to get to our location. We aim to have a very high standard in our

flying, as well as our terminology when speaking to ATC or other pilots.

24 Sqn Role in RAFv

24 Sqn is the back bone of RAFv. When there is an exercise on, we are the first in and last

out, flying the logistics for the other squadrons. The C130 we use primarily for shorter flights &

the C17 for the longer ones. The C130 & C17 roles vary for delivering cargo and troops in

deferent ways i.e.  Personnel carrier role, Combat Troops & Paratroopers. Aerial Delivery

of Cargo, Container Delivery System (CDS) & LAPES (Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System).

Our motto
