Our role is truly unique. 201 Squadron is capable of deploying anywhere in the world, operating in extreme conditions in support of our RAFv colleagues.
Recent 201 Squadron deployments have been on maritime operations in the Adriatic, supporting UK and coalition forces in Afghanistan on Operation Quickzone and regular exercises such as Red Flag in Nevada USA, Maple Flag in Canada and participation in the Fincastle Trophy, an annual ASW competition between the UK, Australia, Canadian and New Zealand forces. During the competition, crews compete in anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and intelligence and surveillance gathering.
Gibraltar is a regular and popular visit for the Nimrod and its crew....you will normally find us in the "Donkeys Flip-Flop" (The Horsehoe Pub) in Main Street on a stop over!

Red Flag 2008
September 15th 2008 - Nellis AFB, Nevada USA
Background
Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada USA is one of the largest fighter bases in the world. Aircraft from Nellis operate on the Nevada Test and Training Range, which offers more than 15,000 square miles of airspace and 4,700 square miles of restricted land. More than 75 percent of all live munitions used by the Air Force for training are dropped on the Nevada Test and Training Range
RED FLAG is an advanced aerial combat training exercise hosted at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and Eielson Air Force Base Alaska. Since 1975, air crew from the United States Air Force (USAF) and other U.S. military branches and allies take part in the exercises, each of which is six weeks in duration.
The Red Flag exercises, conducted in four-to-six cycles a year by the 414th Combat Training Squadron of the 57th Wing, are very realistic aerial war games. The purpose is to train pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries for real combat situations. This includes the use of "enemy" hardware and live ammunition for bombing exercises within the Nevada Test and Training Range.
Deployment
201 Squadron will deploy from RAFv Kinloss on 15th September 2008 to Keflavikr. Further instructions and flight plans will be posted on the Red Flag forum within the 201 forum. Weekly updates will be posted here!
