About RAFvirtual 101 Squadron

Tanker pilot ... me ? Why should I ?

Want to fly (virtual) as close as possible to the RW? Well, consider and take a moment of your time to reconsider. A Tanker pilot with 101 Sqn? Interesting job?

A Tanker pilot has to have patience and maturity, has to be flexible with the resourcefulness of a navigator, the multi tasking of a Air Traffic Controller. He must also be a superb pilot, with knowledge of how various aircraft handle at lower speed. He must be able to anticipate the movements of other aircraft whilst keeping a weather eye out for sneaky 100Sqn. He is assited by 8 Sqn (AWACS) and is not acting alone but interacting with other Squadrons.

Most Sqn members see us in a "race track" this is to simplify things for the less experienced pilots. This can be misleading as most of our flying (outside race tracks) is done hands on, or HOTAS. Short take-offs and landings are also part of our everyday flying practices. Flying circuits at Brize Norton like RW procedures become a second nature. Executing Air-to-Air refuelling procedures like in RW Nato are the ultimated in virtual flying, not only for the Tanker pilot but also for the receivers astern the Tanker.

A tanker pilot must be ready to travel with extra refueling areas in Italy, Norway, the South Atlantic and any where our thirsty compatriots require us. You see more of the world, are in contact with every member here in RAFv, interact with all Sqns, etc.

If you think you or others can really commit to a Sqn then think … 101 Sqn may be what you are looking for. You get all the training (and time) needed in 101 Sqn.

Remember, RAFvirtual 101 Sqn will offer you top virtual flying, as real as it gets …
